| | | David Holder Memorial Fund | David Holder was a man who spent most of his life working to help countries to develop.
Although as a business man he worked with people on a personal level, teaching those who required his teachings to learn for themselves skills that would in turn help their country to progress.
His sudden death on 27th December 2006 at the age of 54 has left a hole in many peoples’ lives, not only his family and close friends, but many people that he has worked with all over the world. Through their loss many seek some way of making a tribute to a man who has left a lasting impression. | | David’s family and friends have come together with international development agency ‘Self Help’ to establish a Fund to raise money for Ethiopia to honour his memory.
They have issued an appeal to those who knew David, to help them create a legacy which can provide a fitting tribute to a man who spent all of his life travelling the world and working with people to make a difference.
It is only through looking back at a life short lived that we see just how hard he worked and how much good became of it. He was a happy, kind and generous man so please give generously to a cause that would be close to his heart.
The family chose ‘Self Help Development International’ as the beneficiaries of the fund, because of the organisations’ remarkable work in Ethiopia, where it has been engaged in implementing long term development programmes amongst the rural poor for more than 22 years.
An Irish based organisation, Self Help is unique amongst international development charities in that it works with an entirely African staff, and implements all of its programmes in close partnership with the communities, who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the work. In Ethiopia, Self Help’s team of more than 90 Ethiopian staff, are currently working to improve food security and social services amongst close to half a million people.
Friends and family who attended David Holder’s funeral at The White Church, Lytham St Anne's, were invited by his family to make a donation to ‘The David Alexander Holder Memorial Fund’, which has been established by the family in conjunction with Self Help.
Those who are interested in supporting the appeal, can do so by making their donations at the funeral service, or on this site. Friends are also invited to visit the web-site www.davidholder.co.uk which has been created by his close friend Paul Shepherd to keep alive the spirit and memory of a man who will be greatly missed. | | | David, who worked for many years in marketing and development of construction chemicals with the Feb Uk organisation also travelled widely throughout the Middle East, to India, Pakistan and China in the course of his work. He died at his home in Dubai, on December 27th last, and is survived by his wife Hari, his children Sam, Luke, Jessica and Sarah, his first wife Jane, by his mother Monica, brothers Chris and Martin, daughters-in-law Kate and Carin, and by his grandson Finn. |
