Fund-Raising Field Visits
Self Help is an Irish development agency engaged in promoting and implementing sustainable rural development programmes in East Africa.

Since being established 20 years ago Self Help has assisted close to two million people in East Africa to achieve food self sufficiency.

Hundreds of Irish volunteers have lent their support to Self Help Development International over the past decade by participating in our annual fund-raising field visits to Africa.

Personalities such as Mary Kennedy, Eleanor Shanley, Ronan Collins, Michael O Muirahertigh, John Creedon, Tracy Piggott, Pat Nolan, Mick Galwey and Nikki Hayes are amongst those to have travelled on these trips, which have generated hundreds of thousands of Euro for our work in Africa - and importantly, have also introduced Self Help, and it's approach to tackling the problems being faced in Africa, to thousands of people.

Participants in each trip are required to raise at least €5,000 - with 50% of that sum going to cover the costs of the trip, and the balance invested in our ongoing work of Self Help in East Africa. During the visit supporters also get memorable opportunities to meet the people, and see at first hand the impact which rural sustainable development programmes can have for people in rural Africa.
